VIZIANAGARAM: A police inspector allegedly shot himself dead with his service weapon at his residence in Vizianagaram on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as P Eswara Rao.
The 38-year-old was a 2009-batch reserve-sub-inspector (RSI) and serving as reserve inspector (home-guards wing), Vizianagaram.
According to police, Rao shot himself in the head with his service pistol and was found dead in a pool of blood at his residence.
A native of Vedurupaka Savaram village in East Godavari district, he was serving as RI in Vizianagaram since 2019.
"We are yet to ascertain the reasons for the extreme step taken by Rao. A case has been registered and investigation is on to ascertain the exact reasons for the suicide", Vizianagaram police chief Deepika M Patil said.
The police officials said that the family members of Rao would arrive in Vizianagaram on Sunday night.
"We will get some concrete information to establish the reasons for the suicide", they added.
The preliminary investigation revealed some personal reasons led to the suicide.
It may be recalled that a sub-inspector Shanmukha Rao in anti-Naxalite elite force Greyhounds committed suicide in the premises of the Greyhounds base in Vizag city in August 2020.
The SI shot himself in the head with his service pistol. The investigation revealed that Shanmukha Rao was suffering from health ailments.
A woman sub-inspector K Bhavani (25) died by suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at the police training college (PTC) quarters in Vizianagaram in August 2021.
She was working as SI at Sakhinetipalle in East Godavari district and came to Vizianagaram for training.
