AMARAVATI: Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to appoint some outgoing ministers as chairpersons of district and regional development boards. They will be granted cabinet rank status and will enjoy other protocols. The chief minister is also likely to retain around 6 to 8 ministers from the incumbent team.
Initially, Jagan wanted to retain 3-4 ministers keeping in view the sociological equations in different districts. However, after going through a careful examination of sociological and political equations, he is believed to be thinking of continuing with at least 6 to 8 ministers of the outgoing cabinet.
He already conveyed to all his cabinet colleagues that he wants to entrust them with key responsibilities and that they need to play an important role in bringing the party back to power in the 2024 elections.
While all outgoing ministers have said that they voluntarily resigned from the cabinet to give the chief minister the freedom to reconstitute his team, some of them are reportedly not said to be happy with the suffix of 'former minister' to their names. To pacify them, Jagan is said to be thinking of putting them in charge of the district and regional development boards.
The state government is expected to revive the erstwhile regional development boards with all MLAs, MPs and ZP chiefs as members. The development boards would be empowered to review all developmental works in the districts under their respective jurisdiction. Similarly, the district development boards will be revived and will replace the existing district review committees. While district in-charge ministers used to chair the review committee meetings till now, they would now be replaced by the former ministers who may be appointed as chairpersons of the district development boards.
