TIRUPATI: A notorious online loan app recovery agent assisting a gang from Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the Kadapa police on Wednesday. The accused identified as Jalal Khan (27) is wanted in similar offences across 14 Indian states.
Speaking to reporters at Kadapa on Wednesday, SP KKN Anburajan said a 37-year-old man identified as Alluri Mohan, a resident of Badvel town, who works at a private firm, started receiving calls from online loan app recovery agents from January this year.
Though Mohan made it clear to the recovery agents that he never took any online loan, the harassment calls did not stop. The recovery agents went to the extent of threatening him and warned that he would be humiliated in front of his friends and relatives if he did not pay up the demanded amount.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim on October 14th, Badvel police registered a case and special teams were formed to nab the accused in the case as per the advice of the Kadapa SP.
The special teams led by Badvel CI G Venkateswarulu and cyber crime CI Sridhar Naidu, managed to arrest Jalal Khan and special teams have been dispatched to nab his two other accomplices involved in the crime.
During the course of the investigation, police found out that Jalal Khan and his gang resorted to similar offences and extorted money from the victims spread across 14 Indian states.
Kadapa police froze the bank accounts of the accused which had Rs.2.05 crore funds.
Kadapa SP told reporters that further investigation was going on and the two accomplices of the key accused would also be arrested soon.
