Andhra Pradesh: One killed and nine hurt as truck mows down devotees

AMARAVATI: According to Vadamalpeta police, a group of devotees from Chennai, who were on their way to Tirumala, were run over by a speeding truck when they were walking past the Vadamalpeta toll plaza

Tirupati: A 35-year-old man died while nine others sustained injuries after a speeding truck mowed down a group of devotees, who were on a holy trek to Tirumala, near Vadamalpeta in Chittoor district on Sunday.

According to Vadamalpeta police, a group of devotees from Chennai, who were on their way to Tirumala, were run over by a speeding truck when they were walking past the Vadamalpeta toll plaza. One person dead on the spot and several others were injured on the spot. The injured were rushed to the SVRR Government General Hospital in Tirupati.

The deceased devotee was identified as Thyagarajan (35) and the injured were Parameswaran, Venkatesan, Vasanth Kumar, Vignesh, Bala Chander, Naveen, Satish, Parandhaman and Karthik.

Vadamalpeta police registered a case and are on the look out for the driver, who absconded after the mishap.
