Andhra Pradesh: Olectra to supply 100 Electric buses for Tirumala Pilgrims

AMARAVATI: The pilgrim city-Tirupati is getting first electric bus in the state. Leader in the electric bus manufacturing in India, Olectra Greentech Limited (Olectra) and Evey Trans Private Limited (EVEY) has bagged another big project when Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) gave the final green signal for supply of 100 E-buses.

The APSRTC will deploy 50 buses at Alipiri (Tirupathi) depot to be operated on Tirumala-Tirupati Ghat. Remaining buses will be operated from Tirupati to Nellore, Kadapa, and Madanapalle as intercity buses. APSRTC is planning to procure more buses after studying the feasibility of the pilot project to be implemented from Tirupati.

The Olectra and Evey firms received the letter of award APSRTC on Monday. Olectra and Evey will jointly supply 100 E-buses under the FAME-II scheme launched by the Union government. Olectra will supply 100 E-buses on a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) /OPEX model basis for 12 years. The value of this contract is approximately Rs.140 crores. The buses will be delivered over a period of 12 months. During the contract period, Olectra will undertake the maintenance of the buses. The total order book of Olectra is now around 1,450 buses after successfully bagging the contract from APSRTC.

Speaking to the media, Olectra Greentech Limited CMD KV Pradeep expressed happiness on getting an opportunity to serve the devotees of Lord Sri Venkateswara by deploying the fleet on the Tirumala-Tirupati Ghat road. He said that Olectra is proud to operate its state-of-the-art electric buses in one more state. He said that their electric buses also contribute to preserving the rich ecology of Seshachalam forest and the Tirumala hills. Olectra Greentech committed to its efforts to reduce pollution levels through its efficient Electric Public Transport System. He said that they have been successfully running e-buses in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Surat, Dehradun, Silvassa, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala.
