Andhra Pradesh: Nellore sees 43% reduction in fatal road accidents

A slew of enforcement, engineering and education (EEE) initiatives taken by the SPSR Nellore district police have helped reduce the number of fatal road accidents, Superintendent of Police Ch. Vijaya Rao has said

“There has been a 43% reduction in the number of fatal road accidents in the district this month when compared to the corresponding period last year when 71 persons succumbed to their injuries. Identification of black spots on the Chennai-Kolkata national highway and other express ways, and putting stickers to caution the road users have paid dividends,” said Mr. Vijaya Rao while chairing a crime review meeting here on Thursday.

The SP also urged the department officers to speed up the investigation of cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Stern punishment should be ensured to culprits early in such cases so that they acted as a deterrent to curb sexual assault cases, the SP said.
