Andhra Pradesh: Man convicted of 25 yrs in Pocso case

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Court of Special Judge for Trial of Offences under Pocso Act in Visakhapatnam convicted a 31-year-old driver in CISF, Rajesh Kumar, with rigorous imprisonment for 25 years and imposed a fine of Rs. 5000, besides ordered to pay compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to victim girl.

Based on the evidence presented before the court by the police led by the investigation officer and Disha Police Station Assistant Commissioner of Police Ch. Vivekananda, the court on Friday pronounced the judgment.

According to ACP Ch. Vivekananda, the accused is a driver in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in CISF's new block in Ukkunagaram and was molested a 4-year-old girl, who is a neighbor to him. The girl’s mother lodged a complaint at Ukkunagaram Police Station that her daughter alone went to the Lohri program celebrated in a house in CISF's new block.

The accused took the girl to his house from the function and molested her, causing bleeding injury in her private part. The victim girl informed her mother about the accused’s act. The mother found oozing blood and lodged a complaint at the police, who registered a case under sections 376 AB IPC and section 6 read with 5 (m) of the Pocso Act, 2012.

The investigation officer Ch. Vivekananda conducted a speedy investigation, collected all material evidence, and filed the charge sheet before the court. The city police boss Dr. A Ravi Sankar took the case on a priority basis and closely monitored the case. Special public prosecutor Karanam Krishna presented the case before the court in a strong manner and succeeded in proving the guilt of the accused.
