Andhra Pradesh: Kidnappers' gang busted in Visakhapatnam

VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakha Rural police in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam district busted a child-kidnapping gang by arresting 10 persons and seized three motorbikes, nine mobile phones, and Rs 4.20 lakh in cash.

They also recovered four babies sold to different persons at different places.

The babies were identified as a beggar Rajamma’s child P Darshit Kumar (8 months) of Pedabayalu mandal, P Maheswari’s daughter Rurasri (9 months) of Pendurthi, Palla Raju’s daughter P Dikshta (9 months) of Simhachalam railway station area and L Suraj’s son Arjun (3 months) of Araku Santabayalu.

Those arrested include P Maheswari (20) of Chinna Mushidiwada, CooliK Kranthi (25) of Allipuram, security guard N Mani (30) of Gosha Hospital, Autodriver Polamarasetty Ramesh (36) of Pendurthi, K Sampath (18) Kancharapalem, S Suresh (20) of Dumbriguda mandal, Driver A Krishna (21) of Padmapuram, Nakka Srinivasa Rao (34) of Sabbavaram mandal, S Nagamani (32) of Kancharapalem and P Mohana Rao (39) of Pendurthi were arrested.

Visakha rural superintendent of police B Krishna Rao told media persons that the Security guard at Gosha hospital in Vizag N Mani living with P Ramesh in Pendurthi gathered information about poor and destitute coming to the hospital.

She lured them to sell the babies to others.

She advised a couple P Kranti and Maheswari, who came for an abortion at the hospital, to give birth and hand over the baby to childless parents.

They accepted and sold away from the baby girl for 2.5 lakh to others.

Later, Kranthi and Maheswari along with Mani, P Ramesh, P Mohana Rao hatched a plan to kidnap the babies, especially from platforms, footpaths, beggars, and others to sell babies for huge amounts to childless parents.

They thought that the kidnap of such children would not attract the attention of the police or the public.

They engaged a few more persons and kidnapped children.
