Andhra Pradesh: Interstate gangs held for multiple offences

TIRUPATI: Chittoor police arrested three interstate gangs including an all-women gang involved in multiple offences, and recovered 50 lakh worth booty on Thursday. DIG S Senthil Kumar said special police teams which were formed to curb chain snatching, house break-ins and attention diversion thefts arrested three gangs involved in such offences.

Senthil Kumar said the all-women gang members N Usha, Shanthi, V Selvi and Valli who belong to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu used to target unsuspecting people at crowded places and decamp with valuables. Police also arrested two accused identified as Shaktivel and Raju who hail from Tamil Nadu.

They were involved in multiple house break-in offences reported in Puthalapattu and Penumuru regions of the district in recent times. Following a spike in chain snatching incidents in GD Nellore police station limits, police arrested C Raghu and A Hamid on Thursday. Raghu, an AR constable who works with Tamil Nadu police department, was placed under suspension.
