Andhra Pradesh: International red sanders smuggler held in Chittoor, logs worth Rs 2 crore seized

TIRUPATI: The Chittoor district police nabbed an international red sanders smuggler and seized logs worth Rs 2 crore on Saturday.

According to Chittoor SP, DIG S Senthil Kumar, the international smuggler, Giri Naidu (28) who has links with rackets operating out of Malaysia and Taiwan along with five other smugglers was nabbed by the police near Satyavedu in the district.

Police seized at least 145 red sanders logs weighing approximately 4,035kg from the possession of the accused during the crackdown.

The other smugglers arrested by the police were identified as N Srikanth (from Nellore), P Ramakrishnan (Tiruvannamalai), C Ponnuswamy (Tiruvannamalai), B Chinnaswamy (Tiruvannamalai) and M Vellayyan (Tiruvannamalai).

DIG S Senthil Kumar appreciated the efforts put in by Satyavedu CI N Sivakumar Reddy and his team in securing the arrest of the smuggler and five others besides seizing such a large haul of red sanders logs.
