VISAKHAPATNAM: In a tragic incident, four children who had gone along with a woman for fun at Pedderu Rivulet at L Gavaravaram village under V Madugulu police station limits in Vizag district and drowned in the waters and died on Monday evening.
The deceased children have been identified as N Mahender (7), V Venkata Jhansi (10), V Gouthami Sharmila (7) and V Jahnavi (11).
The police said one woman V Raja Kumari took the four children, including her daughter Jhansi to the water-body to wash clothes. While she was washing clothes the children were playing in the water entered a deeper place and drowned.
On seeing the children in the troubled waters, some of them at the spot attempted to save them, but their efforts proved futile as the four children drowned in the waters and died.
The V Madugula police led by Sub-Inspector Y Tarakeswara Rao rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the water. The police said that the children were caught in the mire in the water-body. The police have registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC (un-natural deaths) and investigation is on.
