Andhra Pradesh: expedite works under Nadu-Nedu, Jagan tells education officials

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has emphasised the need to complete infrastructure works under Phase-2 of the Nadu-Nedu programme undertaken at a cost of ₹11,267 crore in 25,000 schools and 468 junior colleges at the earliest.

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the officials to ensure that there are two junior colleges in each mandal, of which one should be for women.

Addressing a review meeting on the education sector on Wednesday, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed the officials to get ready for the distribution of kits under the Jagananna Vidya Kanuka scheme by the time of the reopening of schools after summer vacation.

The officials told the Chief Minister that the total expenditure on the Jagananna Vidya Kanuka scheme had increased to ₹960 crore, which was ₹200 crore more than that of the previous year.

Classrooms

With regard to the National Education Policy (NEP), Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy ordered that adequate classrooms be set up for the students. He said the process of setting up six types of schools should be done in a phased manner starting July 2022.

He said that the subject-wise teacher placement programme should also be undertaken in tune with the categorisation of schools and that the exercise should be completed by July 2024.

Further, the Chief Minister told the officials to make an app available for the teachers, students and parents on pronunciation of English words.

To sensitise the students about the “good touch” and the “bad touch,” and drug abuse, the Mahila Police had been told to visit schools every week and report to the higher-ups every month. They had also been asked to create awareness on the Disha app and POCSO Act.

A facial recognition attendance system was being implemented in four districts on a pilot basis, the officials said. It was targeted to have subject teachers in all the schools, especially the foundation schools, by July 2024.

CBSE affiliation

A total of 1,310 schools were affiliated to the CBSE this academic year and by 2024, the number would go up to 5,310, the officials added.

Later, the Chief Minister enquired about the implementation of the Jagananna Goru Muddha and Sampoorna Poshana schemes, and ordered that the schemes be monitored closely.

Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma, Special Chief Secretary (school education) B. Rajasekhar, Secretary (finance) N. Gulzar, Commissioner of School Education S. Suresh Kumar, and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Project Director Vetriselvi were present.
