Andhra Pradesh: Doctor seeks Rs 16,000 bribe for post-mortem in Nellore, suspended

VIJAYAWADA: A government doctor was suspended after he took a bribe of Rs 16,000 from a woman who lost her husband in Udayagiri of Nellore district. Erakam Mudhiraju along with his wife Muneeshwari and two children moved to Kodareddypalli in Nellore in search of a livelihood.

However, Mudhiraju committed suicide on Wednesday. Police registered a suicide case and shifted the dead body to Udayagiri government hospital. There, doctor Samdhani Basha demanded 15,000 for him to conduct autopsy and 1,000 to the attendant.

Muneeshwari paid the bribe after borrowing money from her relatives. The entire episode was filmed on phones by unidentified people and it went viral on social media.

The collector suspended Samdhani Basha following an inquiry report by district health official Rameshnath .
