AMARAVATI: Ruling YSRC has decided to field Dr Dasari Sudha, wife of deceased legislator Dr Venkata Subbaiah, as its candidate for Badvel assembly constituency in Kadapa district.
The bypoll has been necessitated following the death of Dr Venkata Subbaiah in March. Party general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy told reporters on Tuesday it is YSRC’s tradition not to field candidates in by-elections necessitated by the death of the sitting legislator.
“Dr Sudha has agreed to contest the election. Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has already communicated the decision to her and her family members,” said Sajjala.
He, however, said the party will not make any formal request to the opposition on the issue and it was up to them to follow the tradition or field their own candidates. Exuding confidence that YSRC will win Badvel by a massive majority, he said the party would treat the by-election as an opportunity to seek votes on the basis of the performance of the government in the last two years.
