Andhra Pradesh: Complete works on digital libraries on war footing, says CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy

VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday told the officials to complete the construction of digital libraries across the state on a war footing.

He also wanted the officials to provide uninterrupted power supply and internet facility in every digital library. The chief minister held a review meeting with the officials at his Tadepalli camp office on digital libraries and village clinics.

The chief minister told the officials that a good number of employees have come back to their native places due to Covid-19. The work from home culture is increasing, he said and added that work from home would become a regular feature in the years to come.

The digital libraries should be able to provide internet facilities in the villages for employees to come and use them, he said. The officials informed the chief minister that 4,530 digital libraries are coming up across the state with internet facility.

Every digital library will have provisions for desktop and laptop use, with tables and chairs for users, they said. The first phase of the programme would be ready by June this year, they added. The chief minister also instructed the officials to take steps to provide internet facility to every home on demand.

This would help people to work from home without even coming to the digital libraries. The digital libraries should have some computers for the use of the people on demand, he said. However, even if people come with their own laptops, the digital libraries should be able to provide the facility, he added.

The chief minister told the officials to place orders for computers, printers, tables, chairs and other required furniture to be placed in every digital library. The furniture should be ready for use by June this year, he added.

Minister for energy, science and technology Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, chief secretary Dr Sameer Sharma, panchayat raj and rural development principal secretary Gopala Krishna Dwivedi, energy secretary Dr Nagulapalli Srikanth and other senior officials were present at the review meeting.
