Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy reiterates government’s commitment to three capitals

VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday reiterated his government’s commitment to three capitals. He said his vision is to develop all three regions of the state with the available resources, adding he is not in favour of developing only one area for any reason.

Speaking in the assembly on Thursday, Jagan said he has special love for Amaravati for which reason he built his house and prefers to have the area as the legislative capital.

“I have built my house here. I want the assembly to continue here. I am committed to do justice to the farmers, who have given their lands,” chief minister said.

He said the area was neither part of Vijayawada nor Guntur where there is existing basic infrastructure. “Amaravati is a matter of 29 villages, 54,000 acres of land, while the rest of the state is bigger. Those who conceived the Amaravati plan had estimated the cost of basic infrastructure at 1.9 lakh crore. It will certainly take several years to provide this basic infrastructure in 54,000 acres and considering the increasing prices, what would be the total cost?” he asked.

He further said that the 54,000 acres in Amaravati is just a small portion of the land to be developed in the state and asserted that it is not wise to spend such a huge money on a small portion of area.

Jagan said the three capitals and decentralisation of development through governance is the policy of the state government, and asserted that no force can stop this policy. He further said that the government would come up with better plan after wide consultations.

Earlier, minister for finance and legislative affairs Buggana Rajendranath said the decentralisation of administration and the three capitals plan has historic importance. “North Andhra and Rayalaseema regions are backward and require special assistance to be developed,” the minister said.
