Andhra Pradesh: Clashes over inspection of casino centre

VIJAYAWADA: Tension prevailed in Gudivada after YSRC activists prevented TDP leaders from visiting the convention centre where a casino was organised during Sankranti.

A fact-finding team of five members appointed by TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday tried to inspect the K Convention Centre. TDP politburo member and former MLA Bonda Umamaheswar Rao, former MP Konakalla Narayana Rao, Varla Ramiah, Buddha Venkanna and other leaders were initially stalled at Pamarru by police anticipating unrest in Gudivada.

But TDP leaders managed to reach the party office in Gudivada. Meanwhile, hundreds of YSRC activists rushed towards the TDP office and pelted stones. Bonda Uma's car got damaged in the incident.

Police carried out a baton charge to disperse the crowds. The TDP leaders were arrested and taken to the nearby police stations. Konakalla Narayana condemned the arrests and alleged that police are acting in favor of minister Kodali Nani.

"Police tried to interrupt our programme. They permitted hundreds of YSRC activists to attack us. Instead of arresting the culprits, they took us into custody. People are closely watching the acts of police," Narayana said.

Meanwhile, Kodali Nani said: "Naidu is trying to create unrest in Gudivada. A team of jokers appointed by Naidu created violence for the sake of political mileage. Police started an investigation into the casino incident and they will find the facts. I'm ready to commit suicide if I'm found guilty in investigation," Kodali Nani said.
