Andhra Pradesh: Chittoor Police seizes red sanders logs worth 6.2 crore, arrests interstate smuggler

TIRUPATI: Chittoor Police in Andhra Pradesh arrested two interstate smugglers and seized 243 red sanders logs weighing 8.4 tons and worth approximately Rs 6.2 crore on Monday.

Chittoor superintendent of police S Senthil Kumar said Madanapalli deputy superintendent of police A Ravi Manoharachari and his team had arrested a red sanders smuggler identified as B Kannadasan who was found smuggling five red sanders logs in a four-wheeler near Piler cross on July 10.

<p>During the raids carried out at his godowns, police seized 243 high quality red sanders logs worth approximately Rs 6.2 crore in the international markets. </p>

After Kannadasan confessed to the police about the whereabouts of a notorious interstate red sanders smuggler identified as Dasthagiri Imran Khan, the district police conducted raids at multiple locations near Hosur, Krishnagiri, Bommanahalli and other areas in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and arrested Dasthagiri Imran Khan on Monday.

<p>Police also seized two vehicles, mobile phones and other property from the possession of the accused. </p>
