VIJAYAWADA: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the Andhra Pradesh high court on Thursday that they are awaiting crucial reports from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in New Delhi and Gandhinagar in YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case.
The CBI opposed the bail petitions of the accused as the investigation is at a crucial stage.
The high court told the CBI to try to get the reports by June 13 and failing to do so, they will have to argue the matter on the merits of the bail petitions.
Y Sunil Yadav, G Uma Shankar Reddy and D Siva Shankar Reddy, who have been arrested by the CBI in Vivekananda Reddy murder case, moved the high court seeking bail.
Arguing on behalf of the petitioners, senior counsel Vedula Venkata Ramana said that the CBI did not specify any time by when they are going to complete the investigation. He said the accused cannot be put under remand in perpetuity waiting for the CBI to complete the investigation.
As the personal liberty of the accused is at stake, Venkata Ramana sought bail to be granted.
‘Investigation at a crucial stage’
The counsel of CBI, A Chennakeshavulu, said that they are facing many administrative difficulties and practical problems on the ground.
As the investigation is at crucial stage and they are waiting for the reports from two CFSL laboratories, the CBI opposed the bail application of the accused. Justice Ravi Cheemalapati said that it is better to post the matter before the regular court immediately after vacation.
Justice Ravi said that he is not inclined to go into the merits of the case and three weeks’ time may be given to the CBI to see the progress of the investigation.
