TIRUPATI: Spike in Covid-19 cases and clamping of prohibitory orders failed to deter locals and youngsters as they took part in the pasuvula panduga bull fight held in a big way at A Rangampeta village near Tirupati in Chittoor district on Sunday.
Flouting Covid-19 guidelines, thousands of youngsters from neighbouring villages gathered at A Rangampeta village in Chandragiri assembly segment early on Sunday morning as organisers performed a series of special rituals as part of pasuvula panduga held on the sidelines of Kanuma festival.
Once the pujas were over, nearly 500-odd bulls with prize money tied to their horns were made to run amok and the anxious youngsters who gathered on either side of the bull run pathway tried to catch hold of them along with prize money.
At least 30 youngsters who reportedly sustained injuries were rushed to the nearby hospitals.
While animal lovers rued that pasuvula panduga bull sport went on as usual despite court orders prohibiting the sport, the organisers heaved a sigh of relief as the festival, considered a mini version of Tamil Nadu’s Jallikattu, passed off smoothly without any major untoward incidents.
