Andhra Pradesh: 3 die, 35 in hospital due to suspected water infection in Kurnool

TIRUPATI: Three persons died and 35 others were hospitalised with a complaint of diarrhoea at Jambuladinne village of Allagadda mandal in Kurnool district allegedly after drinking contaminated water.

They are being treated at local health centres and government hospitals at Allagadda and Nandyal. The deceased were identified as M Chantanna (75), Ashwini (15) and D Bhaktudu (55).

Villagers alleged that contamination of drinking water had resulted in many people falling sick in recent days. Kurnool district medical and health officer Dr Rama Giddaiah said officials from rural water supply department have taken water samples for testing and they are investigating the reason behind the deaths and hospitalisation.

Medical camps have also been set up at the village as a precautionary measure. Dr Giddaiah, however, claimed that Chantanna died due to age related problems while Bhaktudu died due to a chronic disorder. Ashwini was suffering from comorbidities.

Allagadda MLA Gangula Bijendranath Reddy and former minister Bhuma Akhila Priya met the families of the victims. They also called on the hospitalised.
