Andhra Pradesh: 12 passengers feared dead as auto crashes into rivulet

VIJAYAWADA: Around 12 passengers went missing while seven others were rescued after an overcrowded autorickshaw crashed into a rivulet near Sangam village in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday night.

According to Nellore police, the incident happened at around 9.30pm when the autorickshaw rammed into an oncoming truck and in the follow through fell into the rivulet.

Owing to the recent rains, heavy currents from the rivulet washed away the passengers inside the auto.

Police rushed to the spot and managed to rescue seven persons out of the rivulet.

Police said that a little boy was rushed to the hospital whose condition is said to be critical.

They roped in locals and NDRF personnel to conduct search operations for the missing passengers.

They said that the victims are residents of Jyotinagar in Nellore district.
