VIJAYAWADA: One woman died and 11 others were injured after the auto they are travelling in turned turtle and fell into a canal. All victims were agricultural labourers.
According to the police, all the 11 members, who are residents of Vemavaram of Vatsavai mandal, were returning home from Penuganchiprolu after completing their work on the field in an auto. When they reached Muneru Canal, their auto was hit by another auto from behind, due to which the auto flipped into the canal.
Locals who heard the cries of the passengers came to their rescue. However, Gujja Mary (45) could not be noticed for a long time. She fell unconscious and as no vehicle was available, locals waited for a long time for the 108 ambulance to arrive. The injured were rushed to the Penuganchiprolu PHC in another auto. Mary died on the way when she was being shifted to a private hospital as per the advise of the doctors at the PHC. Mary’s kin alleged that the doctors were negligent in not providing timely treatment to Mary.
The injured were later shifted to a private hospital in Jaggayapeta for better treatment. Police registered a case.
