Meanwhile, police issued a warning to motorists on Friday morning to be careful on the roads as the Met Office issued a yellow weather alert for ice.

Officers dealt with a collision on the Dunlady Road, Dundonald, and said the road was treacherous and urged drivers to exercise extreme care. The Met Office said some snow is expected to accumulate with some places seeing 1-2 cm of snow even to low levels though many sites will see little lying snow.
