Andersonstown Leisure Centre incident due to 'gas pipe fracture'

Firefighters are at the scene of an incident at a Belfast leisure centre.

Crews were called to the site of the new Andersonstown Leisure Centre at around 9.30am on Tuesday morning to reports a gas pipe had been fractured.

There had been reports on social media of an explosion, but the fire service said they had not received any reports of an explosion.

It is understood damage was caused to a gas pipe during work at the site and the fire service have been called as a precaution due to concerns over a gas leak.

There was cordon in place which closed the Andersonstown Road, but it has now reopened.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "There has been damage done to a pipe and there were no reports of an explosion."

Some businesses in the area have reported being affected by the ongoing incident.
