Anderson Strathern appoints three new directors

Anderson Strathern has appointed three new directors to help continue its expansion.

Gillian Harkness-McKinlay, Chris Devlin and James McMillan will be taking on director roles at the Scottish legal firm.

Harkness-McKinlay joins from Burness Paull, where she was a director, and has been appointed director for public sector and charities.

She brings experience of managing large-scale public sector outsourcing projects and third sector mergers, as well as advising on corporate governance and project finance.

Devlin joins from Shepherd and Wedderburn and will take on the role of director for planning and environment.

He spent more than a decade at the firm, specialising in planning and environment law, working with clients in the renewable energy and house building sectors.

Devlin will bring experience in roads law, and applications for judicial review and statutory appeals to the Court of Session in planning matters. He advised City of Edinburgh Council on various elements of the new St James Centre.

McMillan has been appointed as director for the newly established corporate crime, regulatory and investigations team, joining from Dubai-based Al Tamimi & Company; the largest law firm in the Middle East.

He worked at Dentons before joining Al Tamimi in 2018. He has experience in advocacy, international white collar fraud cases, bribery, proceeds of crime, health and safety, and environmental-related prosecutions.

Bruce Farquhar, chair at Anderson Strathern, said: “The public and third sectors, planning and the environment, corporate crime and commercial disputes are key areas of growth for Anderson Strathern, so it’s an opportune time to make these strategic hires.”
