The trial of a man accused of murdering Jake Anderson-Brettner in 2018 will most likely not be heard until next year, the Supreme Court in Launceston has heard.
Jack Harrison Sadler, 28, of Riverside, has been awaiting trial after pleading not guilty to a charge of murder over Mr Anderson-Brettner's death.
The prosecution alleges Mr Anderson-Brettner died at a house in the Launceston suburb of Riverside in August 2018.
Police found part of his body in bushland off the Tasman Highway, near Scottsdale in Tasmania's north-east, four days later.
Mr Anderson-Brettner was 24 when he died.
Mr Sadler's trial was initially set down to be heard this month, but all jury trials in Tasmania have been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Crown prosecutor John Ransom told the court that discussions between Mr Sadler's lawyer, Greg Richardson, and the Direction of Public Prosecutions, Daryl Coates SC, had been ongoing but the trial was not expected to proceed "before February next year".
Mr Ransom requested Justice Michael Brett remand Mr Sadler in custody to re-appear in the Supreme Court in Launceston on October 12.
"If there's a change we can discuss it then," Mr Ransom said.
Jury trials in Tasmania were suspended in March due to coronavirus, but will resume from July 21 under strict social distancing measures.
