Anderlecht declare interest in signing Lukas Nmecha as Man City 'make decision' on striker's future

Anderlecht say they will do everything within their power to sign Manchester City striker Lukas Nmecha permanently this summer.

Nmecha, 22, has spent the season on loan at Vincent Kompany's side, scoring 17 goals and assisting three in 35 appearances.

The German under-21 international, brother of City EDS striker Felix, still has a year left on his City contract and he has previously admitted he wants to break into the first team at the Etihad.

If not, Nmecha said, he did not want another loan spell next season, and it seems Anderlecht are keen to help him out in that regard.

Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad say City have decided to cash in on Nmecha this summer rather than offer him a new deal, and Anderlecht sporting director Peter Verbeke has admitted his side would be interested in signing him on a permanent deal.

He is quoted as saying: “Within our budgetary limits, we do everything we can to buy Nmecha permanently. We are working hard on it.

"Lukas likes to be here, looks for stability and can play European football. He is surrounded with love and can develop himself."

However, Verbeke admits that Anderlecht might be priced out of any deal if City set their asking price too high, and they won't pay a fee they cannot afford.

He continued: “In the ideal scenario, for example, we will continue to work next season, so that he also scores more that way. The player has quite a say and with a year left on his contract, there may be a good price to be arranged with City.”

“Only that file is not in our hands. If there is a club with 15 million euros, we have to pass.”
