Ander Herrera has reminded Manchester United of his enduring fondness for them, via a social media message to a United supporter.
The exchange between the former United midfield star and the fan came on Instagram after Herrera posted to mark his pre-season debut in the colours of his new club, Paris-Saint Germain.
Herrera uploaded a picture of himself in PSG action and said: "Happy to play with these colours for first time."
United fan Vítor Da Rocha Carvalho responded to his post by saying: "Such a wonderful person. Wishing you all the best even though I’m a United supporter."
And Herrera, who in a departing statement to United fans earlier this summer, declared "there is red in my heart", reiterated that message by replying by saying: "Thanks. You know I will always have red (a red emoji) in my heart (a loveheart emoji)."
Herrera brought a five-year stay at Old Trafford to a close this summer, leaving upon the expiry of his contract and later agreeing to join PSG. He was serenaded after United's final game of the season — a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff in which Herrera didn't feature. He played 199 times for the Reds and scored 20 goals.
United are still yet to sign a direct midfield replacement for the Basque midfielder in this summer's transfer window, although they are interested in Newcastle's Sean Longstaff and Sporting CP playmaker Bruno Fernandes.
