Ander Herrera reveals why Man Utd are taking inspiration from Chelsea

Manchester United star Ander Herrera admits they are taking inspiration from rivals Chelsea in their quest for Champions League glory.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side performed a miraculous second leg comeback against Paris Saint-Germain to set up a huge quarter-final showdown with Barcelona .

They have bounced back from a nightmare start to the season under Jose Mourinho to reignite their Premier League top four chances and spark hopes of European glory.

After a tough season by their high standards, the Red Devils are far from favourites ahead of their Barcelona clash.

Yet Herrera admits they are taking inspiration from Chelsea's 2012 Champions League triumph heading into the latter stages of the prestigious competition.

Herrera told El Periódico de Aragón : "In the league we are fighting for the third place and they eliminated us in the quarter-finals of the Cup.

"The Champions League we are there, without going crazy, but we remember that Di Matteo's Chelsea, who were not the favourites and were champions after many problems that year."

Chelsea finished 6th in the Premier League that season, sacking manager Andre Villas-Boas and stunning Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

They did so with a legendary former player, Roberto Di Matteo, as caretaker manager and it is easy to see why Herrera and United are drawing parallels with that situation.

They will face a huge quarter-final task against Barcelona, hosting the first leg at Old Trafford on April 10 before the second leg six days later.

Chelsea also met the Catalan giants on their route to glory - beating them 3-2 on aggregate at the semi-final stage.

United fans will be hoping for a similar outcome as they take on the La Liga leaders next month.
