Ander Herrera hails Paul Pogba as one of the world's best ahead of Man Utd's PSG clash

Ander Herrera has defended former Manchester United team-mate Paul Pogba and hailed him as one of the world's best players.

Pogba, United's £89 club record signing, was left out of the starting line-up for Saturday's 4-1 win at Newcastle.

The France World Cup winner has struggled for form since the start of the season, but is hoping for a recall for tonight's Champions League opener away to Paris Saint Germain.

Herrera, who left United to join PSG as a free agent in 2019, believes Pogba remains one of the most complete midfielders in the world, despite his unconvincing start to the new season.

"I think he's got everything and there are no others like him," said Herrera.

"He can play one-on-one, box-to-box, low or high, he's got it all. All the skills and talent. He's got the talent to be one of the best."

Herrera also claimed United are going in the right direction under Solskjaer and suggested all manages are on a hiding to nothing having to follow the exploits of Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It's not easy to compare with the time when Sir Alex Ferguson was there," said Herrera.

"It's not fair to do this, with players or managers. They are progressing. They have signed the right players. I don't think they are going backwards - they are going forwards."

United put four past Newcastle on Saturday to record just their second Premier League win of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer though has seen his side lose twice at Old Trafford, one of those being Tottenham's 6-1 mauling.
