Ander Herrera explains why Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is a 'beast' to certain players

Ander Herrera has been speaking about Jose Mourinho and explaining why the Tottenham Hotspur head coach is a "beast" with some players he works with.

The 30-year-old Spaniard enjoyed one of his best seasons under Mourinho at Manchester United before the manager left and then the midfielder followed, joining PSG on a free transfer last summer.

Mourinho has received both praise and criticism for his treatment of players over the years and this was no different at United.

However, Herrera had only good things to say about the Portuguese and explained exactly why he does not see eye to eye with some players.

"I've only got words of thanks for him. The first season was fantastic, winning three trophies and the fans chose me as the best player of the season.," the midfielder told Spanish media outlet AS.

"He’s got personality, yes, but if you’re up front with him, work hard, don’t hide and don’t try and mess him about, you won’t have any problem.

"He’s a beast with people who aren’t honest."

Herrera was asked what United under Louis van Gaal needed to do to overhaul Mourinho's Chelsea side before the Portuguese's switch to Old Trafford.

"I don’t know, maybe more time. It’s true that Mourinho’s Chelsea were impeccable, but that first year we had an amazing squad, with Di María, Falcao, Van Persie, Rooney, Antonio Valencia," he said.

The Spaniard has worked with plenty of big personalities in Mourinho, Van Gall, Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the current Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa and he was asked which of them stood out the most for their personality.

"Ibrahimovic and Bielsa. Marcelo, because of his extreme love for football. As a coach, his methods were different to every other coach I’ve had," he admitted.

"Zlatan is a character. The stuff he says to the media, often he’ll say it in the dressing room too.

"Sometimes you're peeing yourself with laughter and other times you want to kill him, but you have to love him, because he’s always up front."
