And Just Like That's Chris Noth explains why Carrie didn't call 911 for Mr Big

It’s the question we’ve all been asking since the Sex And The City reboot returned to screens last week – and Chris Noth has finally answered it.

The actor, who stars as Mr Big in the revamped HBO show And Just Like That, has explained why his wife Carrie Bradshaw didn’t call 911 after finding him collapsed at home.

Instead of trying to find help, viewers looked on as Carrie kissed and cuddled Big in his final moments, spoiling her famous wedding shoes in the process.

In earlier scenes, Big had been doing a workout on a Peloton exercise bike before having a heart attack as he went to take a shower.

Speaking to US Vogue about his character’s exit in the first episode of the new show, Chris said: “All things end, and it was time for him to go.”

The 67-year-old Law & Order star praised director Michael Patrick King – who created the original Sex And The City series and subsequent movies – for the “beautiful” death scene.

He said: “We both called it the Bonnie and Clyde moment, which is that moment where they are about to be eviscerated by bullets.

“They have that look with each other, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. They both know that it’s the end.

“We knew that we had to have that, that I just shouldn’t die alone in the bathroom. There had to be that last moment. No words, no corny dialogue. Just a look. And I thought Michael did it so beautifully.”

And Just Like That creator Michael said the reason Big was killed off was he felt it was important to explore what it was like for Carrie to be single at 55.

“Carrie’s storyline is it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. You thought 35 and single was a story. 55 and single is a story as well,” he told Vanity Fair.

When asked why the Peloton brand was involved with Big’s death scenes, he confirmed it had “nothing to do with the heart attack”.

He explained: “The Peloton is a thing that people have now, right? It reflects society. I wanted something to show that Mr Big was current.

“When Carrie carried a Fendi bag, that was the bag of the moment. Peloton is the bike of the moment.”

Hours after Big’s shocking death scene was shown it was reported searches for cancelling Peloton subscriptions soared on Google, while shares also dropped in the company.

Peloton issued a statement after the episode was aired reassuring users their bikes were safe to use and that heart attacks are down to lifestyle and genetics rather than exercise.

Dr Suzanne Steinbaum, a cardiologist from Peloton’s Health & Wellness Advisory Council said: “I’m sure SATC fans, like me, are saddened by the news that Mr Big dies of a heart attack.

“Mr Big lived what many would call an extravagant lifestyle – including cocktails, cigars and big steaks – and was at serious risk as he had a previous cardiac event in season six.

“These lifestyle choices and perhaps even his family history, which often is a significant factor, were the likely cause of his death.

“Riding his Peloton bike may have even helped delay his cardiac event,” she added.

*The third episode of And Just Like That is available to stream in the UK tonight on Sky and NOWTV
