Will Samantha return in And Just Like That Season 2?
“I have no realistic expectation of Kim Cattrall ever appearing again,” he said. “You take people at their word, and you’re a smart producer — you don’t back yourself into a corner.”
He went on to discuss the idea of keeping the character of Samantha alive in And Just Like That, despite the actress’ refusal to take part.
“It was a big day for me as a writer when I realised that even though Kim Cattrall didn’t want to be in the series, Samantha could be — because of texting,” he told Variety.
“I was like, ‘Right! Samantha can be in the show.’ Because she should be: She’s part of the show and people love her. And I wanted to respect the legacy, wanted to respect the fans,” he said.
, is coming back with Season Two, and now, we know exactly when it’ll be hitting our screens.
So, take this as your reminder to alert your closest gal pals, buy ingredients for a round of cosmopolitans (vodka, Cointreau, Cranberry juice and lime – you’re welcome) and prepare your closing arguments about which man is the best.
It’s Aiden, in case you were wondering.
Without further ado, here’s everything we know about the new season that no one asked for but will be watching.
Season Two is confirmed to drop on June 22 on Binge.
Interestingly, announced the same date on her Instagram page. Considering we’re about 14 hours ahead of the States, potentially that means we’ll get a sneak peek at the new eps before the Yanks.
Considering Season Two was only being filmed in October last year, fans were shocked to see the new season trailer, and the approximate release date, posted online today.
Talk about a quick turn around for such a huge show!
Peep the Season Two trailer below.
We were running blind for a minute there but thankfully, the trailer has filled in some blanks about the storyline in Season Two.
We now know that Miranda Hobbes’ () relationship with non-binary radio host Che Diaz () is still going strong. Love this awakening for Miranda!
The brunch table looks a little bit different, too. The three OGs, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York Goldenblatt () and Miranda have added some more numbers to their coveted brunch reservation.
Glamorous real estate agent Seema Patel (), aspirational documentarian and PTA mum Lisa Todd Wexley () and law professor Dr. Nya Wallace () have returned to the series and made it to the inner circle. Welcome, ladies, it’s a pleasure to have you gas-bagging over some mimosas.
The big talking point between the gals is the “MILF list” circulating the school Charlotte’s kids attend. If Charlotte is not on the list, I’ll riot.
Meanwhile, Charlotte’s daughter Lily York Goldenblatt () has reached an age where she’s ready to lose her virginity, which she announced boldly during breakfast to her parents. I know this is a fictional series but it’s making me feel old. Anyone else remember Lily as a little girl holding a sparkly cupcake handbag at Carrie’s wedding to Big?
Plus, Carrie has been having “grief sex” with her hot podcast producer (Ivan Hernandez).
But the biggest teaser the trailer dropped was the return of Aiden Shaw ().
While we had an inkling that the heartthrob would be returning to the series after SJP posted a bunch of pics of them together strutting down the streets of New York City, now it’s official.
At the end of the trailer, Aiden pops up, and Carrie’s voice over says: “And just like that, I realised some things are better left in the past… but not everything.”
OOOooOoooh don’t you just love it?!
Previously, all we’d seen was a lil video shared to the Instagram. We see what looks like Miranda and a mystery person strutting through the park.
Legit, who the heck is that on the right!?
It’s definitely not Sarah Jessica Parker, I’m sure of it. That’s not her hair, that’s not her walk, that’s not her style.
Just have a peek at the comments section, everyone appears to be as stumped as we are.
“We all know that’s not SJP’s walk – this little video sure has us all talking S2 release day?!” one fan wrote.
“Ummmm something’s off,” wrote another.
“This definitely isn’t them, am I crazy??” wrote a third fan.
After much deliberation, it was finally confirmed to be SJP. What a pointless head-fuck was.
We’ve also been given a taste of the new season via pap piccies.
In recent shots, Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie) and (Charlotte) filmed a scene in New York together, complete with questionable pigeon clutch:
We recently copped some tea about a particular spicy scene via .
Apparently a lead actor from a hit show is gonna star in the second season and we’ll see the dude get pegged.
To quote Kath Day Knight: “I loike what I soiyee!”
Have a read of the blind below:
So it’s sounding like the infamous Che Diaz does the pegging… while dressed as a hare?
It seems so bloody ridiculous, but given the campy nature of the show, it wouldn’t surprise me if all these details are bang-on (no pun intended).
I mean, they’re just too specific!
Now that we know that Carrie’s ex-fiancée Aidan will be returning for Season 2, Team Aidan, it’s your time to shine.
first reported that he’d be joining the cast of the new season for a multi-episode arc. His character last appeared in , which featured him and Carrie kissing over dinner while they were both still married to other people. Quite the saucy little side plot there!
Obviously I’m now incredibly curious to see where Season Two takes the pair. In the OG series they tried dating twice. Maybe the third time’s the charm?
Corbett did that he’d be starring in eason 1. He told “I might be in a few” episodes.
But alas, he never showed up —- much to the chagrin of all the people secretly rooting for him to end up with Carrie.
Aidan’s return is sure to throw a spanner in the works for Carrie and I can’t wait to see how it pans out.
There are some new(ish) faces too! had a few seconds in the trailer. Maybe he’ll be the one getting pegged in a tortoise costume? Personally, I can’t wait to find out.
Some of your not-so faves are also returning, too.
Showrunner recently revealed that we’ll be seeing a lot more Che Diaz in Season 2.
“I want to show the dimension of Che that people didn’t see, for whatever reason — because they were blinded, out of fear or terror,” he told .
“I want to show more of Che rather than less of Che. Like, .”
Honestly, I’ll never forgive the show for teasing us with an epic non-binary character played by none other than the legendary Sara Ramirez, then ruining it with awkward-ass scenes and shitty dialogue.
Let’s hope they redeem themselves with better Che moments in the new season. (This pegging scene sounds pretty epic!)
We’ll also be seeing the return of some of the newer characters to the series, Seema Patel, Lisa Todd Wexley and Dr. Nya Wallace. Plus, as Carrie’s podcast co-host Jackie Nee.
There’s also a red hot rumour that might be reprising her role as Louise from in Season 2.
A sneaky source wrote in to and claimed that the beloved character is being “considered” for Season 2 but the “innocent girl from St. Louis that Carrie met is gone gone.”
INTRIGUING!
Michael Patrick King coyly talked about the return of iconic hornbag Samantha () in a recent interview with .
He said he doesn’t want to give away too much just yet but is working towards his goal of getting the gang back together again somehow.
“It’s all so new right now,” he said.
“One of my big rules is don’t tell things until they’re real.”
Not sure how you’re going to get that done when Kim Cattrall seems to have .
It’s not the first time Samantha has been “in” the revival, though. Her character was somewhat featured through the back and forth texts as a way to keep Samantha alive. A smart play that I must respect.
So perhaps it’s more bulk texts in season two. Guess we’ll have to wait and find out.
When asked by in a previous interview if there was any chance of Kim Cattrall returning for Season 2, he responded: “No. Just like there was no thought that Kim would ever participate in , because she’s said what she had said.”
He added, “The only place I participate in magical thinking is in fiction. You take people at their word.”
When it finally becomes available, it’ll be on and which, BTW, also has Season 1 and the entirety of for your viewing pleasure.
