And Just Like That fans predict romance between Carrie and Steve after Miranda split

And Just Like That viewers are convinced Carrie and Steve are going to end up as more than just friends.

In the penultimate episode of the Sex and the City spin-off, the pair played by Sarah Jessica Parker, 56, and David Eigenberg, 57 shared a tender moment that didn't go unnoticed by fans.

Roped into painting a women's shelter by estranged wife Miranda, Steve helps Carrie rescue Big's wedding ring after she accidentally flushes it down the sink.

As he shares his heartbreak over Miranda's new relationship, Carrie asks Steve whether he would like to meet someone new, telling the handyman he's a "wonderful, wonderful person".

The heartfelt moment sent fans into a frenzy with many speculating a romance was on the cards for the show's stalwarts.

One viewer tweeted: "CARRIE AND STEVE ARE GOING TO GET TOGETHER."

Another said: "Call me crazy, but I got the weirdest vibe the writers are trying to put Carrie and Steve together."

A third wrote: "Carrie and Steve have such good chemistry."

While a fourth quipped: "plot twist...Carrie gets with Steve...it's what Miranda deserves."

Fans were fuming when Miranda, played by Cynthia Nixon, cheated on Steve with non-binary character Che Diaz.

The former corporate lawyer told the father of her son, Brady, she wanted a divorce in last week's heartbreaking episode.

The show came under fire for the storyline in which the loveable Brooklynite appeared to be cast aside.

However writer Elisa Zuritsky defended the drama telling Vanity Fair : "Everyone on the show, every single person, loves David Eigenberg as a human being.

"We love him as an actor. We love Steve. We are really invested in the Steve-ness of him.

"He’s so full of life, and the Steves out there are good guys."

Elisa added that many couples find they've grown apart and that Miranda's storyline was "representative of a certain path that lots of women find themselves on".

While fans are desperate for Steve to find love again, he's going to have to get his skates on if he wants to shack up with Carrie.

At the end of last night's episode the widow texted maths teacher Peter in the hope of a third date, after telling him previously she wasn't ready to get back out there.
