Pop singer Anastacia has said she is “very proud” of having breast cancer twice as it means she can “spread more attention and information” about the disease.

Appearing as a guest on Heart Breakfast on Friday, the US star, who is known for hits including I’m Outta Love, gave an update on her health, describing her cancer as “great” but adding that her Crohn’s disease is “still there”.

She told hosts Jamie Theakston and Zoe Hardman: “I’m very proud of both, because that means that I got to even spread more attention and information about what’s happening 10 years after the first cancer.”

Anastacia said that thanks to medical advances, “cancer isn’t really the scary word it used to be, because early detection is there”.

Anastacia, who had a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in 2013, was asked by Hardman how she is doing now.

Anastacia said: “I’m really well now, yeah! I would say my cancer is great.

“My Crohn’s is still there, you know, but that’s just life, it will always be there.”

The singer, who has had six top 10 albums in the UK, also spoke of her upcoming tour where she promised to play “all the hits”.

She said being in the UK “feels very natural”.

“I think you guys very much get my sense of humour, which is making fun of myself and others,” she added.

Describing the highs of her 25-year career, she said: “I’ve shared a microphone with Celine Dion, Elton John, Pavarotti…”

But she added that she has endured “tough times as well”.

“And those tough times make you stronger,” she said. And I’m very public with my tough times.

“To get through it is to be real about it and not try to act like it doesn’t exist or be angry with it.”

Anastacia’s 2026 NTK Tour will begin on her birthday on September 17, and see her perform at venues including London’s OVO Wembley Arena, Dublin’s 3Olympia and Glasgow’s SEC Armadillo.
