Analyzing Bears’ final injury report for Week 5 against Commanders

The Chicago Bears released their final injury report ahead of Thursday’s Week 5 prime-time matchup against the Washington Commanders.

The Bears will once again be without cornerback Jaylon Johnson (hamstring) and safety Eddie Jackson (foot). Safety Jaquan Brisker (hamstring) also popped up on the injury report Wednesday, putting his status in question.

On the Commanders side, there quite healthy heading into this game. Wide receivers Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel will be active. Running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. is questionable.

Here’s a look at the Bears’ final injury report heading into Thursday night, with analysis:

  • WR Chase Claypool (other)
  • S Eddie Jackson (foot)
  • CB Jaylon Johnson (hamstring)

The Bears will be without two of their top defensive backs in Jackson and Johnson for a second straight game. That leaves an already-vulnerable Chicago secondary even more shaky. Elsewhere, Claypool will miss his second consecutive game as a healthy scratch amid issues with the team. Matt Eberflus said ahead of this week that Claypool was asked not to be at Halas Hall and wouldn’t be active Thursday night.

  • LG Teven Jenkins

Jenkins was designated to return from injured reserve this week, and he has a good shot to play on Thursday night. Jenkins was a full participant in practice all week. We’ll see if the team activates him in time for the game, which would be a huge boost for the interior of the offensive line. Brisker was a surprise late addition to the injury report Wednesday, where he was limited with a hamstring injury. If Brisker can’t go, the Bears will be down their top three defensive backs against the Commanders.

LT Braxton Jones: Jones suffered a neck injury in the Bears’ Week 2 loss to the Bucs, and he was placed on injured reserve this week. Jones will miss at least the next four games and is eligible to return in Week 7 against the Raiders. Matt Eberflus wouldn’t say if it’s a season-ending injury.

CB Kyler Gordon: Gordon suffered a hand injury in Chicago’s Week 1 loss, which landed him on injured reserve. He’ll miss at least the next four games and is eligible to return in Week 6 against the Vikings.

LG Teven Jenkins: Jenkins was placed on injured reserve with a calf injury. Jenkins will miss the first four games and is eligible to return in Week 5 at the Commanders. Jenkins has been designated to return from IR, and he could suit up Thursday night.

CB Josh Blackwell: Blackwell was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He’s required to miss at least the next four games and can return in Week 8 against the Chargers.

C Doug Kramer: Kramer, like Jenkins, landed on IR with an undisclosed injury. He will miss the first four games and can return in Week 5 against Washington.

DL Khalid Kareem: Kareem was placed on IR with a hip injury. He’ll miss at least four games and is eligible to return in Week 7 against the Raiders.
