Analyst ‘worried’ over recent Celtics addition

Not everybody is thrilled with the Boston Celtics’ recent addition of Kristaps Porzingis. For some, Porzingis’ injury history is a real concern, especially since Boston already has Malcolm Brogdon and Robert Williams on their roster – two players who have battled health issues throughout their careers.

Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix is the latest person to make his concerns public. When speaking on a recent episode of ‘Early Edition’ via NBC Sports Boston, the prominent analyst didn’t pull any punches as he shared his thoughts regarding Boston’s recent trade for the All-Star big man. Mannix also noted how he believes the Celtics have slightly regressed during the current offseason.

“It really is Kristaps Porzingis for Grant Williams and Marcus Smart. That, to me, is a step back,” Mannix said. “Because Marcus Smart, even though he was flawed, you know what he is. Grant Williams, as bad as he was in the second half of the season, shot 41% from three in the first half…Kristaps Porszingis, he worries me. He had a great year last year. But he was in a contract year, playing for a team that went nowhere. Now, he’s going to have the security of a long-term contract, playing for a team that needs him to fit into a system to be highly successful. I just have my concerns.”

If Porzingis meshes well with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, then his addition will certainly push Boston closer to the elusive 18th championship banner they’ve been chasing.

However, the Celtics will need Porzingis to play within their system and remain healthy for the deal to be considered a success, and for a championship run to be a realistic goal for last seasons Eastern Conference Finalists.
