All Nippon Airways will auction off airline parts and equipment, in a bid to generate some extra lift as the airline industry navigates headwinds amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
From Tuesday, ANA Trading Co., a Tokyo-based affiliate of ANA Holdings Inc., will begin listing decommissioned aircraft equipment, actual aircraft cabin parts, and other memorabilia on the Yahoo! Auctions website, run by Yahoo Japan Corp.
The first round of auctions is slated to include a Boeing 777 window and window frame set (starting bid 773, yen including tax) and a full-scale development model of an international first-class seat (starting bid 7,730, yen including tax).
ANA Trading Co. has previously sold novelty items, including key chains made from aircraft windows, on its official website. The company said it also received requests from aviation enthusiasts for actual aeronautic memorabilia. Given the scarcity of the items and the difficulty of assigning a price tag, they landed on the idea of holding an auction.
