Ana Kriegel murder trial: Jury retires to consider verdict

The jury in the trial of two schoolboys for the murder of Ana Kriegel has retired to consider its verdict.

The two 14-year-old boys have pleaded not guilty to the murder of 14-year-old Anastasia (Ana) Kriegel on May 14, 2018 at Glenwood House, Laraghcon, Clonee Road, Lucan, Dublin.

One of the boys, Boy A, is also charged with aggravated sexual assault. He has also pleaded not guilty to that charge.

The jury of eight men and four women have heard the evidence over seven weeks before Mr Justice Paul McDermott at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.

Judge McDermott spent yesterday and this morning charging the jury - advising them on points of law and reading through his notes of the evidence.

The judge told the jury that each boy’s case must be considered separately and that it must be unanimous in its decision.

The jury began deliberating at 12.34pm.
