Ana Kriegel: Hundreds expected to gather for memorial tree planting event at Leixlip Manor Hotel followed by prayer service

Family, friends and locals are set to turn out in their droves tomorrow as a tree will be planted in memory of Ana Kriegel close to where the tragic teen was murdered.

The parents of the 14-year-old schoolgirl, Patric and Geraldine, will front the ceremony which will take place at Leixlip Manor Hotel on Saturday, June 29 at 5:30pm.

The hotel has said that everyone is welcome to attend and already thousands have expressed their interest in being part of the event.

A beautiful white Cherry Blossom tree will be planted on Saturday and on Sunday, there will be a prayer service in Confey church.

The service - which will have some scripture readings and music - provides locals with a chance to have a 'moment of quiet reflection for the grieving community'.

Administrator of the parish, Fr Tony O'Shaughnessy, said that people were still very upset in the parish and that this service was a chance for them to show their emotions through prayer.

He added that he hoped the service would be the beginning of conversations in homes about the use of social media in young people.

He said: “I think communities and families and society need to be more guarded, more watchful, more vigilant and absolutely more caring towards young children and to protect them.

Two 14-year-old boys, known as Boy A and Boy B, were found guilty of the murder of Ana in a disused farmhouse in Lucan, Co Dublin.

Boy A was also found guilty of aggravated sexual assault.

Ana, who was described as a 'typical teen' that loved singing, dancing and social media suffered 'horrific bullying' in the months leading up to her death in May 2018.

She was targeted on social media through her Snapchat and YouTube accounts.

On the first day of the murder trial Mrs Kriegel told the court that her daughter was very vulnerable and despite looking older than her 14 years, she was a "child on the inside".

Ana's parents Patric and Geraldine hugged each other and their friends and wept in the court room.

Speaking after the verdict, they said their daughter would be "forever loved".

Patric said: "Ana was our strength."

Geraldine added: "Ana was a dream come true for us and she always will be. She will stay in our hearts, forever loved and forever cherished. We love you Ana."
