An unbelievable ricochet at the plate ended a college baseball game

The Maritime Privateers held on for a thrilling 5-4 win over Plattsburgh State over the weekend thanks to one of the wildest plays at the plate you’ll ever see.

Plattsburgh had the tying run on second base in the top of the seventh inning, and a pickoff throw from the pitcher got past the shortstop while the Plattsburgh runner was approaching third.  The runner slid into the bag, but quickly got up and sprinted for home with the Maritime outfielder tracked down the ball and fired for home. The throw sailed in above the catcher as the runner slid in to score the tying run – but he never touched the base, and the ball bounced back perfectly to the catcher, who was able to tag the runner out to end the game.
