An Post worker rushed to hospital after 'mindless' thug robs van and ditches hundreds of Dubliners' mail in river

An An Post worker was rushed to hospital after a mindless thug robbed a post van and dumped the mail in a river in south Dublin today.

The incident happened at Cloonmore Lawns, Tallaght at 12.50 pm when the postman, 40s, was delivering a package in the area.

A shameless hooligan jumped into the unattended delivery van and tried to drive away.

The postal worker was injured while attempting to prevent the suspect from driving off.

The thief then proceeded to ditch mail and packages into a local river.

The An Post worker was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment and has since been released. The post van was recovered a short distance away.

A garda spokesman said: "No arrests have been made to date."

A video on social media shows an An Post van with the door open and mail scattered on the ground and across a field.

A local warned on a Tallaght residents' Facebook page said: "Hope nobody is waiting for post/packages around Jobstown, because someone's after robbing the post van and your mail is spread across the river and in the field at Kilclare."

A number of irate residents have hit out at the disgraceful hooligans online with one person saying: "Can these cretins sink any lower? Unreal."

Another person said: "Anyone know if the postman is OK? Poor man just doing his job and this happens. It's terrible."

Dublin Live has contacted An Post for a comment.
