An Post announces price hikes for domestic and international stamps

An Post has announced price hikes as the cost of a standard domestic stamp will increase from €1 to €1.10.

The price of a standard international stamp will rise from €1.70 to €1.80.

While changes will come into effect on March 19, existing stamps will remain fully valid after the date.

All stamps with the ‘N’ denomination will automatically cover €1.10 postage, while all ‘W’ stamps will see the new rate of €1.80.

Anna McHugh, head of corporate communications for An Post, said: “This domestic price increase, the first in three years (since April 2017), reflects other European postal services’ price increases over the past three years and keeps An Post tariffs in line with the European average.

“Increases in letter prices across Europe reflect the steady decline in traditional letter volumes globally due to e-substitution.

“An Post has invested to ensure that Ireland has one of the best postal systems in the world as it transforms from the old world of traditional letters to the new world of ecommerce parcels.”
