An outdoor 'beach club' is opening in Manchester city centre next week

An outdoor 'beach club' is preparing to open in Manchester city centre this spring.

The Great Northern Beach Club will take shape on the outdoor terrace at the Great Northern Warehouse, just off Deansgate and Peter Street.

The Mediterranean-inspired hangout spot will serve cocktails, frozen rosé slushies, and ice-cold draft beers from Monday April 12.

The new opening comes from the team behind Bar Hutte, who had built a small village of Christmas cabins on the site but were never able to open them.

Its new summer offering hopes to bring a bit of a holiday feeling to the city centre, inspired by beach bars in Ibiza.

Food will be served by the neighbouring restaurants South Manny Flavaz, Platzki and Alex's Bakery.

Tables and seats will be socially distanced and undercover.

On the menu will be summer drinks like strawberry daiquris, spritzes, frosé and other 'coastal classics'.

From May 17, or step three of the roadmap, the site will also be home to a 'mambo'-style lounge, with private beach huts you can book.

There'll be DJ sets throughout the day, and an events programme in the works like a summer gin festival.
