An open air cinema for kids is coming to Tatton Park this summer, showing The Gruffalo and The Lego Movie 2

An open-air cinema with a programme of family-friendly films will pop up at Tatton Park this July, showing films including The Lego Movie 2, Finding Dory and The Greatest Showman.

The Luna Kids Cinema was a sold-out event when it visited the historic estate last year.

The 2019 programme will include some of this year's biggest releases, from Disney's live-action remakes of Dumbo and Aladdin to the brand new Peppa Pig film.

Kicking off on July 24 with The Incredibles 2, the Luna Kids Cinema will show 15 different films and animated shorts over the course of five days.

Much-loved films from years gone by will be shown too, including Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Moana, and Finding Dory.

Returning to the open air screen will be The Gruffalo, based on the books of Julia Donaldson - the 30-minute screening will be followed by The Highway Rat and the first ever open-air screenings of Zog.

Last year's smash hit Mary Poppins Returns, starring Emily Blunt in the titular role, will be showing on July 27, with runaway box office sensation The Greatest Showman hitting the big screen on the same day.

Peppa Pig: Festival of Fun, only released earlier this month, will surely be a big hit with younger audiences, as will this year's How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

Audiences will be able to watch forgetful fish Dory race to find her friends in Finding Dory, see Moana battle the high seas, and witness Emmet and pals fight off DUPLO invaders.

All of these films will be screened on a giant 10m high-definition screen during the day, with a portion of ticket sales going to international children's charity Save the Children.

A giant inflatable maze of light and colour will appear at Salford Quays as part of a summer festival

Treetop Trek and Nets has taken Heaton Park to a whole new level

There will be access to microwaves, a covered baby change area, buggy park and free use of high chairs to make the event as suitable for all ages as possible.

There will also be a covered canopy to provide shade and shelter for any weathers.

Visitors are welcome to take picnics, although there will be a selection of food and drink available at Luna Kids Cinema - including the Big Kids Bar serving wine, beer and prosecco.

George Wood, founder of The Luna Cinema, said: "It’s shaping up to be a pretty special summer of outdoor cinema for films fans, no matter their age.

"Once again, we’ve chosen some of the most unique settings across the country for the Luna Kids tour so no matter where you live you should be able to get to a Luna Kids screening this summer.

"We know that going to the cinema with babies and children can sometimes be a bit of a challenge, and that is why the Luna Kids Cinema experience is so different. We’ve hopefully thought of all the little touches to make the experience as hassle free as possible for the adults and as much fun as possible for the kids!"

Tickets will start from £13.50 for adults and £8 for children, including booking fees.
