An MP repeatedly called Boris Johnson a liar and was ordered to leave the House of Commons

A Labour MP has been ordered to leave the House of Commons having repeatedly called the Prime Minister a liar.

Brent Central's Dawn Butler spoke in the Commons on the last day before the summer recess and refused to take back comments that the Prime Minister had lied to the Commons and the country.

She said that "poor people have paid with their lives because the Prime Minister has spent the last 18 months misleading this House and the country".

She listed a number of "dangerous lies" the Prime Minister had told during the pandemic including, she said, that the economy had not grown by 73%, reinstating nurses bursaries "just not true" investing £34bn in the NHS "not true".

She said comments by the Prime Minister we had "severed the link between infection, serious disease and death". "Not only is this not true it's dangerous, it's dangerous to lie in this pandemic. I'm disappointed that the Prime Minister has not come to this House to correct the record and to correct the fact he has lied to this House and the country over and over again".

"Whilst the NHS was coping with 130,000 people from the pandemic the Prime Minister was making his mates rich. Cronyism is rife, old chums are given jobs regardless of their skillset, some given a little bit on the side. This has been one big experiment for this corrupt, authoritarian, racist-laden government and I'm not afraid of saying it as it is."

She was interrupted by the Deputy Speaker Judith Cummins and asked to "correct the record".

Ms Butler said: "At the the end of the day the Prime Minister has lied to this house time and time again".

"It's funny that we get in trouble in this place for calling out the lie rather than the person lying".

She was told to "reflect on her words and withdraw her remarks".

Immediately, Ms Butler responded saying she had but "someone needs to tell the truth in this House that the Prime Minister has lied".

She was then told under Standing Order 43 to "withdraw from the house immediately" which she did.
