Doctor and mindfulness coach Barbara Mariposa discusses how you can use mindfulness techniques to increase emotional intelligence, as well as how to manage digital overload. In addition, author Rohan Gunatillake talks about making mindfulness part of our digital lives, and Michael Chaskalson, one of the UK’s leading mindfulness trainers and academic lecturers, will share his extensive knowledge of neuroscience and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), while giving practical tips on how to apply mindfulness in the workplace. Tutor profiles
Professor Willem Kuyken is professor of clinical psychology at the University of Oxford and director of the Oxford Mindfulness Centre. His research work and teaching on mood disorders focuses primarily on mindfulness-based approaches and compassion. Willem holds a PhD from the Institute of Psychiatry at Kings College and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Salomon’s Clinical Psychology Training Programme. From 1999 to 2014 he worked at the University of Exeter, where he headed up the doctoral clinical psychology training programme. During that period he co-founded the Mood Disorders Centre, directing it through its formative years and co-founded the Masters in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapies. In 2006 Willem was awarded the May Davidson award for clinical psychologists who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of clinical psychology within the first 10 years of their work as a qualified clinical psychologist.
Dr. Barbara Mariposa is an experienced medical doctor, acupuncturist, mindfulness coach and educator. She combines her scientific background, counselling and coaching skills, and longstanding personal meditation practice to help people develop a fundamental set of skills to master their well-being at every level. Michael Chaskalson is one of the UK’s leading mindfulness trainers. He is the author of The Mindful Workplace, and also the founder and director of Mindfulness Works Ltd., a major European provider of mindfulness-based interventions. Based in Cambridge, Michael has more than thirty-five years of personal practice of mindfulness and related disciplines. He is a member of the core teaching team at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at Bangor University, where he teaches a module on the part-time masters programme in mindfulness at the University’s School of Psychology. He is an adjunct professor at IE Business School in Madrid, teaching on their Executive Master’s in Positive Strategy and Leadership.
Rohan Gunatillake is the director of Mindfulness Everywhere, a creative studio combining meditation, technology and design. Currently working on new products for 2015, Mindfulness Everywhere is best known for buddhify, the mindfulness app for modern life, which has topped the charts in over 40 countries. Rohan has an extensive background in mindfulness-based meditation, and has worked for over 10 years in technology and innovation for the likes of IBM, Accenture, Nesta and the Edinburgh Festivals. In 2012 Wired named him in their Smart List of 50 people who will change the world. Rohan’s forthcoming book This Is Happening will be published by Bluebird (Pan Macmillan) in January 2016. An e-short, 24 Hour Mindfulness, is coming this July.
