A woman has said she “nearly died” when a blister on her foot became so badly infected she could not walk, Hull Live reports. Charlie Beardshall-Moore, from Hull, said she feared only major surgery could get her life back on track after years of suffering.
The 23-year-old said the blister first appeared in January 2021 while she was wearing trainers. She noticed it had become infected and was growing in size and oozing pus.
She visited a number of hospitals in and around Hull and received advice from specialists, but the wound never healed. It became apparent that the infection was getting worse, she said.

Her symptoms apparently baffled doctors and she could only “get a minute of relief from medication.” Charlie said she nearly lost her life after suffering with sepsis.
“I nearly died last year because of it, because the infection was getting that bad that I was getting dizzy and passing out,” she added.

Charlie said she had gone to different hospitals in search of a solution, but claimed she had been referred from one department to the next, which left her feeling as if she was going in circles. She said she had been so desperate to resolve the problem that her grandmother had helped her pay to see a private doctor.

But after spending £110 on a 10-minute consultation, she said she was still left with no answer. At her most recent doctor’s appointment, Charlie said she was told she would need surgery, which would involve breaking bones in her foot and surgically realigning them.
She would also need to wear a cast while her foot healed.
“One minute I’m told I need surgery, the next it’s physio,” she said. “The surgeons said they can’t do anything until my ulcers are healed, but they won’t heal, so what do I have to do?
“Do I have to pay just so I can stay alive?”
The once active woman said her foot has essentially left her bed-bound and she now has to rely on her partner to do even the most basic household chores.
“I used to be an outgoing girl and go out with my friends all the time, but now I struggle to even get up and bathe myself,” she added. “I suffer from anxiety and this has made it a lot worse.
“I walk on my tiptoes and can’t do normal things, I’m up at night. I’ll get a minute of relief from medication but nothing to get rid of the infection.”
More than two years since her initial injury, Charlie said she wanted to bring attention to the severity of her situation as she continues to fight for a solution.
“This is serious. One minute I had a normal life with a blister, and now I can’t even walk,” she said. “This injury has robbed me of my life and future.
“I want to be able to get the right medical attention, if I can get the surgery I need to realign my foot, I would be able to walk again, and that’s all I want.”
