An important position battle is formulating on the Redskins O-Line

All eyes in Washington are on the QB battle taking place between Dwayne Haskins and Case Keenum.

Standing right in front of them, however, there is another position up for grabs, and one of the Washington Redksins new rookies has a good chance to snag the starting spot.

Wes Martin, who was a fourth-round pick out of Indiana, has his eyes on that left guard spot, which is currently up for grabs. His biggest competition is Ereck Flowers, who Washington signed after largely being labeled as a bust after being picked No. 9 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. This spring the two big-men will battle it out in the trenches, hoping to be named the starter for Week 1.

While Flowers certainly has the name recognition in the league after being a highly sought-after player from the University of Miami, there is some buzz around the team that Martin has the upper hand. Former Redskins’ tight end Chris Cooley said on his podcast that Martin would be the starter, and according to NBC Sports, the feeling in the locker room is that Martin compares to Chase Roullier, who is now a crucial piece in the Washington O-line after being largely unheard of when coming out of the draft a few years back.

It won’t get much media attention, and the result is sure to never be mentioned on the major airwaves, but the result of the LG battle between Flowers and Martin is sure to be a crucial piece of the Redskins success this season.
